(28 jul. 1901, Kensington, cerca de Melbourne, Victoria, Australia–30 mar. 1990, San Francisco, Cal., EE.UU.).

Líder laboral de estadounidense de origen australiano. Llegó a EE.UU. en 1920 como marinero, estableciéndose pronto en San Francisco; tuvo una participación activa en la rama local de la Asociación Internacional de Estibadores (ILA). En 1937 desafilió del ILA a la división de la costa del Pacífico, la que posteriormente se reorganizó como la Unión Internacional de Estibadores y Almacenadores (ILWU), afiliándola al CIO (ver AFL-CIO). Sus tácticas laborales agresivas y sus conexiones con el Partido Comunista hicieron que la ILWU fuera expulsada del CIO en 1950 durante una purga de sindicatos supuestamente comunistas. Sus opositores trataron entonces de deportar a Bridges sin conseguirlo. Jubiló como presidente de la ILWU en 1977.
